Do you need a fence and you want to do a DIY installation without the help of a professional? Even if it seems something commonplace, there are some elements to take into consideration. Let’s see together all the steps to follow and some tricks of the trade.
1. Pay attention to the boundaries
There are specific laws that rules the fence realisation. Ask the authority in charge for your area about any permit you need to have and any ties in your zone.
Be also careful to the boundaries: be sure you respect the correct distance from streets or other properties, in order to avoid fines or ruin the relationship with your neighbours.
2. Analyse why you need the fence
Do you want to enclose your garden or vegetable garden? Do you need a fence for your pets? Or to protect your space from the invasion of roe deer or wild boars?
According to the aim of your fence, you need to take into consideration different aspects to have a good resistance. In particular:
- The needed height of the fence (see more details in the box below).
- The necessary laying of the mesh underground
- The mesh type and size
- The post diameter and length
Some more details about fence height
Be careful! Each height has its own insert:
- Agojet Torx d.38/T30: up to 1.20 mt high
- Helitorx d.38: up to 1.50 mt high
- Helitorx T35: up to 1.80 mt high
- Helitorx d.48 and Palohelixe d.48 e d.60 system: over 1.80 mt high
Furthermore, up to 1.20 mt high, the insert can be easily installed even without any kind of nutrunner. You can just use the T-handle key. For higher fences, we suggest you to contact a professional who can help you with our special nutrunners.
3. Test the soil
In order to use our inserts, you need a clayey, compact soil, without or with little amounts of gravel or stones. Even if you think you know perfectly the ground in your area, invest a few minutes to test its composition. You can do it with little holes of 20-25 mm along the installation perimeter that can be also made with a commonplace tube.
Then, pay attention to what you discover: if your grounds proves to be mainly gravelly, stony or full of roots, the installation without concrete is not possible, because these kinds of soils do not guarantee the correct resistance of the insert.
4. Sketch the project of your fence
Take a sheet and sketch the perimeter of your fencing area, as accurately as possible. In this way you can identify:
- The number of necessary posts, remembering that generally 2 mt is the suggested distance between two of them.
- The number of corners, to establish how many struts you will need. Remember also that every 25 mt you will need another strut.
- How many meters of mesh you will need.
Be careful! This step is particularly delicate! To be sure you don’t forget anything, the Agojet staff make a technician available to give you a free estimate in a few days that will include the whole materials you need. You just have to tell us about how long is your fence and how many corners or gates it has.

5. Start with your installation: map out the perimeter and arrange the inserts
Now you are ready to map out the perimeter. We suggest you to already put the inserts near the exact point of installation, in order to speed the next steps.
6. Make the pre-holes
To install the Agojet inserts you need a pre-hole. What is it? It’s a little hole in the ground that you can make with an electric drill and an extended bit or simply with the same tube you have used before. The pre-hole has two functions:
- Test the soil: if you have decided to go on with the installation you already know that your ground has the correct composition, but maybe in the exact point you have to screw the insert in there’s a big root or a stone. The pre-hole allows you to locate it and to move a little bit to avoid the obstacle.
- Create a runner for the screwing of the insert, in order to go on smoothly.
7. If necessary, wet the ground
Is your soil really dry and you struggle to make a hole? To make the installation easier you can wet the ground with some water.
But be careful! You don’t have to irrigate all the installation area: doing so, you would only get a softer soil, affecting negatively the insert consolidation. It’s enough to pour some water (one or two glasses) in the pre-hole.
Secret #1: if the resistance of the soil is still high, put in the water some soap. The insert will slip perfectly.
8. Screw the inserts
According to the number of the posts you need for your fence, you have two different possibilities:
For little quantities (up to 30 posts):
You can use our T-handle key, equipped with a level on the top to guarantee a perfect insertion in the ground.
For larger quantities:
If you have more than 30 posts, the best tool for your installation is Av-Torx, our electric nutrunner at low revs, specifically designed to screw the Agojet inserts in the ground.
Neither in this case you will have problems with your installation: on the top of Av-Torx you will find an useful level that will allow you to screw the insert in the ground at right angles.
Be careful! To use Av-Torx you will need some help: two people are necessary to support Av-Torx.
Secret #2: if you have screwed too much or too little the insert in the ground, adjust the depth with the T-handle key to have a perfectly linear fence.
9. Arrange posts and struts
Now you can go on putting the posts into the inserts.
Secret #3: prepare your post with the closing cap for the insert in it. In this way you will save time during the next step, not having to make the accessory slip for the whole post and bend down to fix it.
Then install the struts. You have to put them:
- in every corner – two struts, one in a line and the other at 90°
- and one every 25 mt, where the mesh ends.
Their function is to make your fence more resistant and to avoid the mesh bending toward the interior side. For more details and a correct installation click here.
10. Install the accessories and the mesh
Complete your installation with the accessories of the Agojet range:
- Inserts closing cap to fix perfectly the post
- Posts closing cap to avoid water or other materials infiltration in the post that can cause some damages.
- Rings to perfectly fix the mesh
Now you are ready to install the mesh you have selected. Remember that the Agojet system leaves you free to choose the kind and size of the mesh.
But pay particular attention to the shade net. This is true for all kinds of installation, with or without the use of concrete: this kind of mesh is subject to the effect of wind that can cause big damages to the fence.
